ORANGE, Calif. – In their final dual of the regular season the No. 16 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team defeated the Chapman Panthers 196-103 to end the year with a 7-1 record against SCIAC teams. The Athenas won a total of 12 events on the day.

It was a team effort for CMS on Saturday morning. Allie Umemoto (SC) was the lone Athena to win multiple individual events, claiming the 200 Free and 100 Free. Once again in the 100 Free, Umemoto led the charge winning the event in 54.20 to lead three CMS swimmers in the top three.

In addition to Umemoto's strong showings, the Athenas had a strong effort in the pool on Saturday. A total of nine different Athenas won individual events. CMS showed their versatility by not only claiming the distance events, but also turning in top times in many of the shorter events. No race was quicker that Anne Jang's (CMC) swim in the 50 Free. Jang turned in a time of 25.29 to edge Chapman's Jailey Reeves by just .02 of a second to win the event.

Lewis claimed the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.95 to out touch Chapman's Hanna Heiss by a tenth of a second to win the event. Edwards turned in the top time in the 100 Breast in runaway fashion. She won the event by 4.52 seconds with a time of 1:08.98.

Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) and Shannon Steele (CMC) also claimed individual events in the lanes. Bacon-Brenes earned the top spot in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:24.61 to win the event by over five seconds. Steele led a pack of four Athenas with the fastest times in the event by posting a time of 4:47.79.

On the boards, Maia Presti claimed the one-meter diving competition by less than three points with a score of 290.00.

CMS also added a pair of victories in the two relay races. The team of Lewis, Bacon-Brenes, Tran, and Natalia Orbach-Mandel (HMC) started the day with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.52. On the backend, the team of Laura Dickinson (CMC), Riley Hoffman (CMC), Madison Blumer (SC), and Orbach-Mandel claimed the 200 Free Relay in 1:38.67 to close out the day.

The Athenas will now take off from competition for the next two and a half weeks as they prepare for the SCIAC Championships that begin on Feb. 21.
