The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s golf team opened the 2017-18 season by winning the CMS Invitational over the weekend with a team score of 620 (+44). After shooting a 317 as a team on Saturday the Athenas dropped 14 strokes and carded a 303 on Sunday to take the team honors. Playing in her first collegiate tournament, Mira Yoo (CMC) set a new women’s golf program record on Sunday with a 68 (-4) to claim medalist honors on the weekend.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team made a first-half goal by Rhiann Holman (CMC) stand-up for the 1-0 victory over Chapman University on Saturday night. The Athenas outshot the Panthers 19-12 in the match, but had to withstand numerous late chances by the visitors to earn their first SCIAC victory of the season.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second-half against Caltech, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team scored a goal in the 75th minute to force overtime and then tallied another goal at the end of the first overtime-period to clinch a 2-1 victory. The Stags controlled the pace of play throughout the afternoon, owning a 22-3 advantage in shots, but it was the Beavers that struck first with a penalty kick goal in the 21st minute.

Saturday night's road contest against Chapman University ended on a tough note for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team as the Athenas fell 3-2 (18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23) in an intense five-set contest.

The No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team dismantled the No. 14 La Verne Leopards on Friday night in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-12) sweep in front of their home crowd in Roberts Pavilion. Led by Margot Mafra Spencer (SC) and her nine kills, five different Athenas finished with at least six kills. As a team, CMS finished with 40 kills and an impressive .368 hitting percentage in the match.

Since 2007 the Folds of Honor Foundation has been helping to support and provide educational scholarships to the spouses and families of fallen United States soldiers. Every year, The Patriot All-America Golf Tournament partners with Folds of Honor to help raise support and funds for the Foundation. In each of the last two years, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s golf team has been represented, with John Shaw (CMC) playing in 2015 and Alex Wrenn (CMC) competing in 2016.

Comeback Falls Just Short, As Bulldogs Top Stags

Despite a goal in the 84th minute by Daniel Rohde (HMC) on Wednesday, the Stags could not complete the comeback and dropped a 3-2 match against the Redlands Bulldogs. The Stags struck first with a goal in the 26th minute off the foot of Justin Gadalla into the side-netting. CMS would hold the 1-0 lead until the Bulldogs struck within less than four minute left in the half to tie the match at 1-1.

Jonathan Shaw (CMC) followed up a Day One, 67 (-5) by carding a 66 (-6) on Tuesday to finish atop the leaderboard at the California State Intercollegiate with a two-day total of 133 (-11), four shots clear of the field. As a team, the Stags opened the 2017-18 season by finishing the tournament in fifth-place with a team total of 578 (+2).
