Bag Raffle Proceeds Donated to Folds of Honor Foundation

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Since 2007 the Folds of Honor Foundation has been helping to support and provide educational scholarships to the spouses and families of fallen United States soldiers. Every year, The Patriot All-America Golf Tournament partners with Folds of Honor to help raise support and funds for the Foundation. In each of the last two years, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team has been represented, with Jonathan Shaw (CMC) playing in 2015 and Alex Wrenn (CMC) competing in 2016.

Folds of Honor pairs all 84 golfers in the Patriot Tournament with a fallen soldier and the player carries a specially embroidered bag with the name of the soldier throughout the tournament. After play is complete, the bag is given to the player to be auctioned off with the raised funds benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation.

In the 2016 Tournament, Alex Wrenn played in memory of Army Sgt. Jeffrey S. Brown, who was killed on Aug. 8, 2006 in a helicopter crash in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Brown, a California native, grew-up in the Trinity Alps in Northern California northeast of Redding.

After competing in the 2016 Tournament, last December, Wrenn was given his bag. The bag was recently raffled off at Goose Creek Golf Club on Patriots Day. The bag was on displayed at Goose Creek for a month with the staff selling tickets prior to the Sept. 11 raffle date. In total, $1,550 was raised in the raffle and all proceeds were sent to the Folds of Honor Program in honor of Army Sgt. Jeffrey S. Brown.

The 2017 Patriot Tournament will take place Dec. 29-31 at Wigwam Arizona Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Az. While the field for the 2017 tournament has not be announced, it will features 84 of the best men's collegiate golfers in the country. The players come from all divisions and levels of collegiate golf including, NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA and NJCAA Divisions I and II.
