An outstanding 2015-16 year for CMS Athletics and its student-athletes concluded on Saturday, May 28, with two NCAA Division III individual national championships, one by Skyler Butts '16 in men's tennis singles and the other by Tyra Abraham, a women's track sprinter from Scripps.
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s team came in fifth place at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships for the highest finish program history at 33 points. During the day, CMS totaled six All-American performances including a national championship in the women’s 100m dash by sophomore Tyra Abraham (SCR).
The second day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships proved to be very successful for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women. All three individuals who competed in preliminary races qualified for the finals and junior Vaiva Palunas (SCR) finished up her second of three events in the championships with the women’s shot put.
In the first day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Waverly, Iowa, six individuals and one relay team competed for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Two track athletes advanced from preliminary races in the 1500m and 200m on Thursday to the finals of the respective events on Saturday while two field athletes completed their events in discus and pole vault.

Track & Field NCAA Championships preview
The NCAA announced the full field of qualifiers for the 2016 Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship in preparation for the event May 26-28. Thirteen athletes from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps teams qualified: four men and nine women. The championships will be held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa in the Walston-Hoover Stadium. Events will start at 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 and 12:30 p.m. on May 27-28.

Track & Field earns 39 All-Region honors
The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the All-Region Teams and Awards for 2016 on May 23. As a program, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps hauled in 39 All-Region honors: 26 for the women, 13 for the men.
