Over the years, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics has won 27 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Sports Trophies and has been ranked in the upper echelon of Division III programs in the annual Directors’ Cup Standings.

As statistics were examined at the close of the season, single season hits, career wins, career shutouts and career innings pitched records were broken for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team.

CMS loses heartbreaker in NCAA Super Regional Championship

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team fought to the bitter end in the championship game of the NCAA West Region Super Regional. After losing the first game of the series on Friday, the Athenas’ faced elimination from the tournament on Saturday afternoon. CMS heroically won the first game of the day 6-4 to necessitate a third game and then, after leading that game until the seventh inning, gave up a three-run walk-off homer to end the game and season.

Athenas falter in eight inning epic vs. ETBU at NCAA Super Regional

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Softball team went ahead early in the first game of the best two-out-of-three series but then let ETBU back into the game ultimately giving the Tigers the opportunity to win it in the end 6-4. The Athenas, now down 0-1, need to win two games on Saturday to advance to the Division III World Series.

After the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team’s first NCAA Regional Championship last weekend, the Athenas will travel to East Texas Baptist University for a best two out of three series.

Junior pitcher Hayley Schultz of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week after being named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Redlands Regional.

CMS advances to NCAA Super Regionals with 7-2 win over Redlands

May 11, 2014

In their ninth meeting of the season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team beat Redlands 7-2 for the program’s first NCAA Regional title. As the winner of a regional, CMS advances to a Super Regional with the winner of the Tyler Regional for a best two out of three match up. The initial field of 62 teams narrows to just 16 in Super Regionals.

Schultz & Robinson selected to NFCA All-Region Teams

Junior pitcher Hayley Schultz and sophomore shortstop Tara Robinson were selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to the All-West Region Second Team. The 2014 NFCA Division III All-Region selections are comprised of three teams in each of the country’s eight NCAA regions totaling 360 student-athletes.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas came out undefeated in the first day of the NCAA Redlands Regional. In the round robin games, No. 22 CMS beat No. 2 Linfield (2-1) and conference foe No. 25 Redlands (8-5).

After earning the automatic qualification to the 2014 Division III Softball Championship by winning the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team faces Linfield and Redlands in a three team regional hosted by Redlands May 9-10.

CMS captures third consecutive SCIAC Tournament Championship

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team won their third consecutive SCIAC Tournament title beating Redlands 11-0 on Saturday afternoon at Redlands’ “Field of Dreams.” The Athenas entered the second day of the tournament as the only undefeated team after having won both games on Friday against Chapman (6-0) and Redlands (5-4). In the championship game, CMS faced Redlands again as the Bulldogs beat Whittier earlier in the day. Redlands won the first match up with CMS 1-0 to push the tournament to the “if necessary” championship game where the Athenas came out on top to be crowned SCIAC Tournament Champions.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball landed the most players on the All-SCIAC teams including both Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Sophomore shortstop Tara Robinson was named as the conference’s Player of the Year as freshman Kaylilani Minami earned the Rookie of the Year award. First Team honors went to junior pitcher Hayley Schultz and sophomore first baseman Katie Savard. Sophomore outfielder Janelle Shiozaki, sophomore second baseman Brooklyn Robinson, and senior catcher Morgan Beltz earned Second Team honors.
