Softball heads to ETBU for NCAA Super Regional

After the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team's first NCAA Regional Championship last weekend, the Athenas will travel to East Texas Baptist University for a best two out of three series.

This is the first year of the current format with Regional and Super Regional Championships before the top eight teams advance to the NCAA Finals. As the higher seed, ETBU hosts CMS for the Super Regional in Marshall, TX. The first game is Friday, May 16 at 5 p.m. and the second Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. with the third immediately following (if necessary). All times are in CST.

To advance to the NCAA Super Regional, ETBU entered the Tyler Regional as an at-large bid and the No. 2 seed, second to conference mate UT Tyler and above Texas Lutheran. The Tigers went undefeated in the tournament beating Tyler and TLU in the first round and TLU again for the championship.

The Athenas received the automatic qualification to the NCAA post-season by winning the SCIAC Tournament. CMS was the No. 3 seed in the Redlands Regional with top seed Linfield and rival and No. 2 seed Redlands. The Athenas swept through the tournament besting the perennial powerhouse in Linfield and Redlands in the round robin games and then beat Redlands again for the championship in their ninth meeting of the year.

CMS faced ETBU twice in 2013, once in Georgia at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with the Athenas coming out on top (4-3), and once in the NCAA Regional Tournament as the Tigers handed CMS their first loss (3-0) in the double elimination tournament.

CMS has won nine of their last ten games and boasts a team batting average of .394 and team ERA of 1.66 during those games.
