Mejia runs second fastest time, qualifies for finals in 800m

CANTON, N.Y. – In the second day of the NCAA Championships at St. Lawrence University, just three Athenas competed in preliminary races for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field team. Sophomore Carmen Mejia (SCR) ran the second fastest time in the women's 800m after entering as the No. 4 seed.

Earlier this season, Mejia ran the 800m in 2:09.40 to qualify for the NCAA Championships and set the CMS record. Today in the preliminary heats, she ran it in 2:10.95, just 0.03 seconds off the first place finisher. The finals will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 23.

Freshman Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis (CMC), competing in her first NCAA Championships, placed 21st in the prelims of the women's 400m with a time of 57.57.

Freshman and SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, Tyra Abraham (SCR) finished in 16th place in the preliminary race of the women's 100m dash posting a time of 12.47.

The championships will finish up tomorrow in Canton, NY at St. Lawrence University.
