Claremont Classic and Oxy Invite serve as final tune-ups before NCAAs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A handful of personal records and top-10 marks were achieved by members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field teams at the Occidental Invite on May 9. The event was the last event that CMS athletes had to qualify for the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships which are May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y.

While CMS athletes are done with their qualifying events, other D-III athletes have until Saturday, May 16 to qualify for nationals. As of now, the Athenas have eight athletes with qualifying times or marks while the Stags have three.

At the Oxy Invite on Saturday, three Stags and one Athena came up with personal bests. In the pole vault, freshman Michael Wagenveld (CMC) had a personal best mark of 15-07.00 at 4.75 meters. He moved up from a tie for sixth into a tie for fourth on the men's CMS all-time list with that mark.

In the 1500 meters, sophomore Josh Sealand (HMC) and sophomore Garrett Ryan (CMC) had their own personal bests at 3:49.20 and 3:56.18, respectively. Also at the Oxy Invite, sophomore Cam Van (CMC) won the triple jump with a mark of 14.35.
