Two School Records Highlight Dual Meet Sweeps
Two CMS records were set as CMS won home dual meets against Chapman, Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. The Athenas beat Chapman 139-15, Occidental 124-38 and Pomona-Pitzer 114-48 while the Stags beat Occidental 129-30 and Pomona-Pitzer 136-26 (Chapman does not have a men's team). CMS is now 5-0 on the women's side and 4-0 on the men's.
Rose Lewis broke an 11-year old record with her time of 14.36 in the 100 hurdles. Reny Colton broke her own two-year old record in the triple jump with a mark of 41-8. Both marks are second best in SCIAC history and Colton's is tied for fifth in Division III history. The pair had career days. Lewis also won the 400 hurdles with a personal best time of 62.88 (#4 CMS and #8 SCIAC) and was on the winning 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. Colton also won the 100 meters with a personal best of 12.50 (#8 CMS), finished second in the 100 hurdles with a personal best of 14.54 (#3 CMS and #4 SCIAC), finished second in the high jump with a season best of 5-1 and finished third in the javelin with a personal best of 103-2.
The Stags won 15 of the 19 events and finished second in the remaining four. CMS had two double winners. Jeff Macdonald won the 200 and 400 meters in season best times of 21.92 and 48.57 while Alex Krall won the 110 hurdles in a personal best of 15.86 and also won the pole vault (14-4). The other individual winners included Mac Hightower in the 800 meters (1:56.87), Justin Jones in the 1500 meters (4:01.46), Jon Briskman in the 5000 meters (15:27.33), Bennett Naden in the steeplechase (9:40.1), Kyle Hansen in the triple jump (41-8.5), Sam Perrella in the shot put (45-9), Nick Hobbs in the discus (131-9), Chris Gage in the hammer (163-3) and Elan Bernstein in the javelin (170-7). Macdonald combined with Hansen, Jake Weyerhaeuser and Justin Schneider to win the 4 x 100 (42.45) and with Hiroki Butterfield, Ari Davis and Jones to win the 4 x 400 (3:18.23). CMS went at least 1-2 in eight events including the 800 (1-2-3), 1500, 5000, 110 hurdles, steeplechase (1-2-3-4), shot put, hammer (1-2-3-4) and javelin (1-2-3).
The Athenas won 11 events overall. In addition to Colton's and Lewis' double wins, individual winners included Aubrey Zimmerling in the 800 meters (2:20.40), Allison Barnwell in the 1500 meters (4:46.99), Taia Wu in the steeplechase (11:56.7), Monique Nguyen in the high jump (5-3) and Allison Krugman in the pole vault (10-10.75). Lewis combined with Meg O'Keefe, Madi Knaub and Ellyn Erving to win the 4 x 100 relay (50.21) and with Alex Arnett, Heather Cousins and O'Keefe to win the 4 x 400 relay (4:01.51). CMS went at least 1-2 in six events including the 800 (1-2-3), 1500, 100 hurdles (1-2-3), steeplechase, high jump and triple jump.
CMS will be back in action this weekend at the California/Nevada Championships. The meet will take place at UC San Diego on Friday & Saturday, March 29 & 30 and feature competitors from NCAA Divisions I, II and III as well as the NAIA.
