Athena Softball Excels In The Classroom

Though CMS Softball has garnered attention recently for success on the field, the athletically talented student-athletes excel in the classroom as well. Ten of eighteen student-athletes on the 2010-2011 team were named NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Scholar-Athletes. The award goes to student-athletes who earn a 3.5 GPA or better for the academic year.
Munoz Is Second Athena Alumni In Three Years To Earn Fulbright

Melissa Munoz earned a Fulbright Award following graduation from Scripps College this spring and will spend the next year working with high school students in Malaysia. Her teammate, Jessica Vaughn '09, taught for a year in Sri Lanka as a Fulbright scholar.
2011 Season In Review

The 2011 CMS Softball season began on the heels of the most successful season in program history. In 2010, CMS won its first SCIAC Championship in 11 years, set a new record for wins, and won its first game at the NCAA National Championship Tournament ever. 2011 provided endless highlights, exhilarating wins, agonizing defeats, belly busting laughs, and precious memories. There were also several notable statistics and achievements and they are outlined here:
CMS Finishes 1-2 In Powerhouse Regional

CMS finished 1-2 at the Texas-Tyler Regional of the NCAA Division III Softball Championships. The Athenas, ranked 15th in the nation, lost to #13 Louisiana College 8-3, beat #3 East Texas Baptist University 6-1 and lost to #12 Redlands 6-1. At the conclusion of the tournament, two Athena players, Michelle Harvey and Harmony Palmer were named to the All-Tournament team.
Palmer Earns Academic All-District Honors

Harmony Palmer was voted to the Capital One Academic All-District softball team which was released today.

The CMS Softball team played six games in 48 hours over the weekend, coming away 5-1. The slew of games leaves CMS 11-2 overall and 6-1 in SCIAC.

The CMS Softball team kicks off the 2011 season with great excitement. The squad will look for leadership from a returning cadre of 14 players including: 2010 First Team All-American and SCIAC Player of the Year Harmony Palmer, and 2010 All-Region stand-outs: Amanda Banducci, Michelle Harvey, Emily Lopez, and Gizelle Pera.
