All-SCIAC teams full of Stags

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Six members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team landed on the First and Second Teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as announced May 12. Freshman Nikolai Parodi (CMC) highlighted the Stags' selections as he was named both the Newcomer and Athlete of the Year.

First Team award winners included Parodi and senior captains Glenn Hull (CMC) and Daniel Morkovine (CMC). Senior Max Macey (CMC), sophomore Julian Gordy (CMC) and freshman Daniel Park (CMC) represented the Stags on the Second Team.

Additionally, CMS garnered Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Head coach Paul Settles is assisted by Chris Fabrizio, Skyler Butts, and Hank Krieger. Under his tutelage, the Stags have won 115 consecutive SCIAC matches and the program has reached 25 conference championships.

In regular season dual matches, Parodi compiled a 13-5 record in singles overall including a 4-1 mark in conference play holding down the No. 1 position. He was 5-3 in SCIAC doubles competition with five different partners before wrapping up the SCIAC team title paired with Morkovine at the No. 1 spot. He represented West Region in Oracle Cup in October, finishing seventh in singles and third in doubles with Hull. Parodi then become the first freshman to win both the Ojai singles title and doubles with Morkovine. The freshman came up big in the SCIAC Championship final as he clinched the 5-3 victory for the Stags with his 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1 victory at No.1 singles.

Morkovine partnered with Gordy for the majority of the regular season and posted a 12-9 record in regular season dual match play. The senior bounced around between the second and third position in the singles lineup and ended up with a 17-4 record this spring. At The Ojai, Morkovine went up against his teammate, Parodi, in the all-Stags final. Gordy's strength to the team came in the doubles courts, but when he entered into the singles lineup, he posted an 8-1 record this spring.

Hull has only been taken past two sets twice this season and otherwise held the 18-1 record in singles play. His dominant and efficient play has often given the Stags their first team point from singles competition. After partnering with the freshman Jake Berber (CMC) following the Stags' trip to Texas, Hull has only suffered two doubles losses.

Macey consistently contributed to CMS' dominance in singles play. The senior began the season in either the No. 5 or No. 6 position and rose up to be the Stags' No. 4 player. During the regular season, Macey put up the impressive 21-1 record. In Park's first year as a Stag, the freshman earned a spot in the singles lineup early on. He was 18-5 in singles play and has not lost since the beginning of April.
