Stags Top Washington & Lee 8-1

Freshman Nik Marino (San Diego, CA [pictured right]) won at #5 singles and #3 doubles to lead CMS Stags Tennis to an 8-1 victory over Washington & Lee on Friday. Marino and partner Brandon Wei (Sr. - Lake Oswego, OR) were part of a doubles sweep for CMS by winning 8-6 at #3. Marino then put the Stags up 4-0 with his 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles.

Sophomore Neel Kotrappa (La Verne, CA) - who has begun the spring campaign with three consecutive straight sets wins - clinched the victory for CMS with a 6-4, 6-0 result at #6 singles. After dropping #3 singles to make it a 5-1 contest, CMS earned hard fought wins at #1, #2, and #4 singles, where they were perfect in four tie-breakers. Senior Robbie Erani (New York, NY) made his 2012 singles debut an interesting one, winning two tight tie-breakers to earn a win at #4. Junior Alex Lane (Claremont, CA) and freshman Warren Wood (Del Mar, CA) playing at #1 and #2 singles respectively, got their first singles wins of the spring by identical 6-4, 7-6 scores.

CMS will open SCIAC play against Caltech and then take on #26 Bates on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
