Strong Performances Allow Stags to Top Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Stags topped the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Saturday morning by a score of 155-72 for their second victory this week. Aaron Lutzker (HMC) won both the 200 IM (1:54.78) and 100 Breast (58.44) while Kendall Hollimon (CMC) was dominate in both the one-meter (312.08) and three-meter (333.50) diving events for the No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team.

The Stags won a total of nine events on the day and shared first in the 500 Free when Ben Culberson (CMC) and Cal Lutheran's Jonah Hobbs both touched in 4:49.40.

The day opened with the Stags claiming the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Dave Makhervaks (HMC), Sam Willett (CMC), Marco Conati (HMC), and Andreas Roeseler (HMC) won the the event in a time of 1:35.16.

Aaron Lutzker won the first individual event for CMS on the day in the 200 IM. Lutzker dominated the field and turned in a time of 1:54.78 to take the top spot in the event by 2.38 seconds. As mentioned, Lutzker doubled his victories later in the day by claiming the top spot in the 100 Breast. His time of 58.44 edged his teammate Tyler Welty (CMC) by .15 of a second.

The Stags had a strong showing in the 100 Fly. CMS took the top three spots in the race, led by Marco Conati's 51.48. Zachary Goland (HMC) and Welty finished second and third with times of 52.60 and 52.92, respectively.

Sam Willett claimed 100 Back by almost two seconds with a time of 53.43 and Andreas Roeseler won the 100 Free with a time of 47.64.

As mentioned, Ben Culberson claimed the top spot in the 500 Free with Cal Lutheran's Jonah Hobbs. The duo tied the 500-yard race with identical times of 4:49.40.

Kendall Hollimon's strong season continued with a pair of impressive scores in the diving competitions. Hollimon scored 333.50 points in the three-meter event and won the one-meter competition by nearly 160 points with a score of 312.08.

The Stags wrapped up the day by taking the top two spots in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Conati, Patricio Madero (CMC), Daniel Hayon (CMC), and Makhervaks claimed the top spot with a time of 1:27.42.

CMS will next be in action on Saturday when they host Occidental and Caltech on Senior Day in Axelrood Pool. Diving starts at 10:00 a.m. and swimming competitions will begin at 11:00 a.m.
