Women's Lacrosse Tames Tigers in Regional Showdown

The No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team avenged a loss in the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Colorado College Tigers 14-9 on the road. Sally Abel (CMC) led the Athenas scoring effort on the afternoon with three goals. Emily Cohen (CMC), Corie Hack (CMC), Allie Hill (CMC), and Hannah Graves (CMC) got in on the action, scoring two goals each in the important regional victory for CMS. Evan Murphy (CMC) followed up a seven assist performance on Wednesday with five assists on Sunday afternoon.

Athenas Top Talented Field, Claim Jekyll Island Invitational

The No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team held off charges from No. 1 New York University and No. 12 Methodist on Sunday to win the Jekyll Island Invitational by five shots over a field of 23 teams that featured 17 of the top 35 teams in the country. The Athenas shot a 310 (+22) on Sunday to finish the three-day tournament with 913 strokes (+49). CMS finished five shots ahead of second-place NYU to finish on top of a talented and deep field.

Stags Battle Back, Finish in Top-10 at Jekyll Island Invite

The No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot a season-worst 22-over, 310 in the First Round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The Stags flipped a switch overnight and played the final two rounds of the tournament at eight-under par. CMS posted back-to-back rounds under-par on both Saturday and Sunday to climb the leaderboard and finish in sixth-place. Across the three days, the Stags shot 878 (+14) to finish two shots ahead of No. 49 Hampden-Sydney and Kenyon College who tied for seventh at 880 (+16).

Athenas Jump on Bulldogs and Scots Early, Earn Saturday Sweep

March 17, 2018

Claire Baxter (CMC) and Roxy Kiessling (CMC) each scored three goals in a 9-4 victory for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team over the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday morning. The 9-4 victory over the Bulldogs was just the start of a doubleheader sweep for the Athenas, CMS completed their sweep with a 12-7 victory over Macalester later in the afternoon. Baxter led the Athenas on the day with six goals across the two games.

Athenas Top No. 7 Polar Bears and No. 12 Tigers to Extend Winning Streak

It was two more ranked tests for the No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team when the Athenas hosted the No. 7 Bowdoin Polar Bears and No. 12 Sewanee Tigers on Saturday afternoon. The Athenas passed both tests with flying colors to earn their 14th and 15th victories to begin the season. With two wins on the day, CMS improves to 15-0 on the season and will next take the court on Wednesday when they host the No. 8 Tufts Jumbos at 6:00 p.m.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball extended their win-streak to 10 games after sweeping their doubleheader with Hamline on Saturday afternoon. Chloe Amarilla (CMC) highlighted the day for the Athenas with her first-career no-hitter. The Athenas run-ruled the Pipers in both games, taking Game One 10-0 and Game Two 8-0, both in five innings. The Athenas jump back into SCIAC play next weekend when they head across the street to take on Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader with the Sagehens is slated to start at noon.

Stags Earn Third-Straight Sweep Against No. 6 Mammoths

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team took care of the No. 6 Amherst Mammoths on Saturday afternoon, earning their third-straight 9-0 victory in as many days. The Stags swept their way through three doubles matches before taking all six singles contests to earn their seventh victory over a ranked team this season.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s track and field team had 11 top-10 finishes at the Redlands Invitational on Saturday. Alex McDonald (CMC) posted the best finish of the day, taking third in the 400 meter hurdles. The Stags had the top Division III marks in five different events.

Gallop Puts Herself in CMS Record Books After Winning Javelin at Redlands Invite

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team posted two top finishes at the Redlands Invitational, both coming in field events. Emily Bassett (CMC) posted a first-place finish in one of her three events, before Amanda Gallop (SC) put her name in the CMS records books with her win in the javelin (39.12m). The 4x100 team also put up a top-10 time in program history after taking third in the event. Tyra Abraham (SC) posted the fastest 100 meter dash in Division III this season with a time of 11.89. The team of Grace Pratt (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Tyra Abraham (SC) put together the sixth best 4x100 relay performance in program history, finishing third with the top Division III mark at the meet with a time of 47.66.

Over the weekend, Michael Scarlett (CMC) added to his list of postseason accolades with a First Team All-American honor by D3Hoops.com. The accolade comes on the heels of a Third Team All-American nod by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) just last week. Earlier this month, Scarlett was named First Team All-District by the NABC and First Team All-Region by D3Hoops.com.

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team defeated the No. 11 Amherst Mammoths 6-3 on Thursday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Athenas took the top two doubles matches before claiming four of the six singles matches for the top-15 victory. Nicole Tan (CMC) and Lindsay Brown (CMC) both turned in dominate performances to claim victories in the #2 and #3 singles matches. Tan won 6-2, 6-0 to earn the Athenas first singles point of the match at #2 singles. Brown was off the court next at #3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

The Athenas scored 10 goals in the first-half en route to a runaway, 13-3 victory over the Connecticut College women's water polo team in Axelrood Pool on Thursday afternoon. The Athenas followed up their afternoon victory with a 13-6 win over the Occidental Tigers in the night-cap of their doubleheader. Claire Baxter (CMC) scored four goals in each game for a total of eight on the day to lead CMS to a pair of victories.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team took the first game of Thursday's twin bill in thrilling fashion, taking Western Connecticut State into extra innings. Briana Halle (CMC) provided the clutch base hit, bringing in Chloe Amarilla (CMC) from third to push the Athenas to an 11-10 victory. The Athenas trailed 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh in Game Two but emerged victorious, bringing in four runs to earn the 7-6 win. Maddie Valdez (CMC) laced a walk-off triple into the gap in right center to plate Kawai Scanlan (SC) and give CMS their second walk-off win of the day.

Stags Run Away from Thoroughbreds and Lyons in Sweeps

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team turned in a pair of sweeps in non-conference matches on Thursday. CMS opened Thursday with a dominating 9-0 victory over Wheaton College (MA) before cruising to another 9-0 victory over the No. 26 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. Against the Lyons, the Stags dropped just nine games across six singles matches en route to the convincing victory. Their match against Skidmore was more of the same, with CMS earning straight-set victories in all six singles matches.

Murphy Drops Dimes, Athenas Handle Pride with Strong Second-Half

The No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team scored 12 goals on Wednesday afternoon in a 12-8 victory over the Springfield Pride on Zinda Field. Evan Murphy (CMC) registered an assist on over half of the Athenas scores on the day, accumulating seven in the Athenas' seventh-straight victory. A quick scan of the record books shows that Murphy's seven assists are the most in a single game for an Athena since Lindsay Gaesser (CMC) recorded seven against Denison on Apr. 27, 2007. Earlier that same season, Gasser notched nine assists against Puget Sound on Apr. 8, 2007.
