Bio

Matt Ryan is entering his eighth year with CMS Recreation and his first as the new Director of Recreation in 2023-24. Ryan came to CMS in 2016 from Samford University where he worked in the campus recreaction office for one year.

Prior to starting a career in recreation, Ryan studied sport administration at the University of Louisville, where he received his Master’s in 2015 and Bachelor’s in 2013. As a student, he worked as an intramural official and won honors of the Lou Frankel Softball Umpire of the Year in 2014. He also served in several different roles within athletics while in Louisville, primarily working in operations for the varsity lacrosse team at UofL for four years, first as an intern and eventually on scholarship as a graduate student. He was a part of the Cardinals' Big East Championship and NCAA Sweet 16 tournament run in 2014.

Ryan also interned with the Bellarmine University athletics department in event management, facilities and operations, where his team hosted the NCAA DII 2015 Regional Basketball Tournament. Matt also assisted Bellarmine's sports information office in broadcasting home basketball and lacrosse events. In college, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity where he served as the chapter's intramural, finance and spirit chair positions.

Originally from the Chicago area, Ryan is a big fan of the Cubs and the Bears.
