Three 2015 CMS grads place high in first marathons

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Sara Mostatabi (CMC '15), Alex Mauro (CMC '15), and Matt Cook (HMC '15) headed up to Vancouver, Wash. to race the Vancouver USA Marathon on Sunday, June 21. This was the first marathon for each athlete.

Mostatabi, coming off her All-American performance in the 10,000m at the 2015 NCAA Track Championships held 4 weeks prior, won the women's competition with a time of 2:48.56. Her average mile was 6:26 and placed her 23 minutes ahead of the second place finisher while finishing seventh overall in the race.

Teammates Mauro and Cook placed second and third overall in the race clocking 2:35.05 and 2:35.24 respectively.  The eventual winner of the race, Andrew Hillier from Great Brittan, broke away over the last seven miles to cross the finish line in 2:33.52.  Cook and Mauro pushed the pace over the first 19 miles taking turns leading the race until the seasoned marathoner Hillier started opening up a gap just after the 19 mile mark.

The three teammates were very happy with their results and are excited to continue training for future marathons as they begin their jobs and graduate school work.
