Athenas third, Stags fourth at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CMS competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday and, despite both teams missing three of their top seven runners, finished third in the women's race and fourth in the men's.

The Stags raced first and had 10 of their 28 runners record personal bests in the 8,000 meter race.  CMS finished with 128 points and beat 12 teams including five SCIAC schools.  The three teams ahead of them were all nationally ranked in their respective divisions.  Alex Lombardo finished sixth overall in the 182-runner field with a strong time of 25:34.9.  Jack Wilson, Sam Pitcavage, Hunter Olsen and Kevin Huang finished within 23 seconds of each other to conclude the scoring for CMS.  Personal bests were achieved Olsen (26:22.9), Jesse Joseph (26:55.9), Kyle Suver (26:58.5), David White (27:23.4), Wyatt Cooper (27:31.3), Brian Chmelik (28:00.2), Arch Robison (28:00.5), Mac Hightower (28:07.9), Dan McCabe (28:28.4) and J.P. Kiefer (28:50.7).

The Athenas scored 97 points.  They lost only to NAIA #11 San Marcos and Division II Azusa Pacific.  CMS beat all six SCIAC schools along with NAIA #13 Master's and NAIA #18 Westmont and six other teams.  Sara Mostatabi led the team with her 15th place finish in 22:53.1  CMS' scorers finished within 26 seconds with Taia Wu, Bryn McKillop, Olivia Carmo and Caroline Willian.  The Athenas had nine of the top 13 SCIAC finishers.  Personal bests were recorded by Carmo (23:14.9), Roselyn Cantu (23:50.1), Kathleen Muenzen (24:22.5) and Ashley Macarchuk (28:05.5). 

CMS will be back in action on Friday, October 17 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet.  The meet will take place at La Mirada Regional Park in La Mirada with the first race beginning at 4:30.
