CMS Women's Cross Country takes first place

CMS Women's Cross Country Earns First-Place Finish at Coyote Challenge

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team, led by a second-place finish from sophomore Riley Harmon, earned first place at the Coyote Challenge, hosted by CSU San Bernardino on Saturday morning.

Harmon finished in 17:58.41 to come in second behind only Rebecca Ruiz of CSU Los Angeles over the 5K race. Her efforts helped CMS to 38 points, beating out second-place Concordia Irvine (66) by 28 points and third-place Glendale (86) by 48. 

Harmon was joined in the top 10 by three of her teammates. Fellow sophomore Sophie Gitlin came in sixth place overall with a time of 18:11.77, and was followed closely by junior Abigail Johnson in eighth place in 18:12.45. One runner later, Brooklyn Button made it three CMS sophomores in the top 10 with a tenth place finish in 18:14.09. 

Junior Olivia Gleason was the fifth and final CMS runner to score by coming in 12th place overall with a time of 18:17.77, but plenty of other Athenas were close behind. Senior Georgia Scherer came in 14th place with a time of 18:20.69, and was followed in the top 20 by first-years Isabella Brusco (16th) and Anika Kimme (17th) and senior Alexandra Lambros (20th). 

Also finishing high for the Athenas were junior Jackie McVay in 24th, junior Gabriella Kimmerly in 31st and junior Samantha Baker in 37th. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Santa Clarita on Saturday to participate in The Master's Invitational.
