Athenas Impress Against Strong Field at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Early Saturday morning the Athenas' cross country team ran in the UC Riverside Invitational. Thirteen non-Division I institutions competed and of those 13 teams, the Athenas finished the race in fifth-place with a team score of 131.

CMS was the only Division III team represented in the top-10.

Bryn McKillop (SC) continued her stellar start to the season with a fourth-place finish among non-Division I competition on Saturday. McKillop's time of 20:34.4 in the 6K race placed her in 17th among all competitors regardless of division.

Just a minute behind McKillop were Abigale Johnson (SC) and Ellen Berkley (CMC). Both finished in the top-25 of non-Division I competitors with Johnson placing 21st with a time of 21:33.8 and Berkley crossing in 21:42.3, good enough for 25th.

Three more Athenas finished in the top-50, with Delaney Hartmann (SC), Malea Martin (CMC), and Dulcie Jones (SC), finishing in 41st, 44th, and 49th respectively. Hartmann cross in 22:10.9, while Martin finished in 22:18.0 and Jones finished 10 seconds behind her in a time of 22:28.3.

Matilda Msall (SC) and Roselyn Cantu (CMC) rounded out the effort for the Athenas in the race. Msall placed 55th in a time of 22:35.0 while Cantu got around the course in 22:47.3, placing her 62nd.

The Athenas will be in action next weekend when they travel to the CSU San Bernardino Invitational on Sept. 23. That race is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
