First Years Impress for Athenas at Nationball Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team started the 2017 season in Santa Barbara to run in the 2017 Nationball Classic hosted by Westmont College. In addition to running against the host team, the Athenas were also joined by CMS alumni who have ran for the Stags and Athenas in recent years past. The Athenas won the event, seeing their runners finish in the first nine spots and scoring 15 points.

Senior Bryn McKillop (SC) took first place for the second straight season and beat her course record by a second at 24:45. Newcomer Ellen Berkley (CMC) shone in her debut, taking second with a time of 25:56. Roselyn Cantu (CMC) also broke her course personal record at 26:56 while finishing in seventh, beating her previous time by 12 seconds.

Several first years impressed in their debut as well as Abigale Johnson (SC) took third overall at 25:57 while Delaney Hartmann (SC) crossed in sixth place at 26:23. Dulcie Jones (SC) clocked in a 27:12 in her first collegiate meet, taking eighth place.

The Athenas will run again on Saturday, September 9 at the Biola Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. at 8 a.m.
