CMS Women's Water Polo Celebrates Senior Day with 22-6 Win over Chapman

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team honored seniors Mia Adsen, Olivia Cairns, Cooper McKenna and Cassandra Ruedy prior to the contest as part of the final regular season weekend home game, and went on to capture a 22-6 win over Chapman on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

With the win, CMS improves to 17-8 overall and 9-1 in the SCIAC, keeping pace with Pomona-Pitzer one week before meeting the Sagehens in a big road game next Saturday.

Cairns, McKenna, and Adsen each had two goals on their Senior Day, while Ruedy contributed a steal and a drawn exclusion to the win. Dara Schoolcraft led all scorers with five goals, while Isabel Del Villar and Valerie Wraith each had three, Caitlin Muñoz had two and Ellie Raidt and Elise Power added one apiece.

CMS led 4-1 after one quarter and then broke it open with seven unanswered goals in the second quarter. Wraith, Schoolcraft, Adsen and Del Villar had the four goals in the first quarter, with Schoolcraft starting the second quarter with her second. After Cairns scored her first, McKenna had back to back goals less than a minute apart to make it an 8-1 CMS lead.

Muñoz then closed out the half with two goals, sandwiched around one from Del Villar, to make it 11-1 at the break, and CMS was able to coast through the second half on its way to the 22-6 win.

Adsen led the Athenas in assists with three, while Fiona Murphy had a team-high three steals.

CMS will face Whittier on Wednesday at home, before traveling to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday to close out the regular season.
