CMS Women's Water Polo Earns 12-9 Win over Biola

FRESNO, Calif. - Christina Kulick scored four goals and Cooper McKenna added three as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team defeated Biola 12-9 on the first day of the Fresno State Invitational on Friday.

With the win, CMS now stands at 2-2 on the season. Mia Adsen and Isabel Del Villar added two goals apiece, and Olivia Cairns scored ones for the Athenas.

The first half ended 6-6 with Biola taking five different one-goal leads before CMS took its first lead at 6-5 on a Del Villar goal with 1:52 left in the half. Biola answered to tie it before the break, but Kulick and Del Villar scored the first two goals of the second half to provide the first two-goal lead for either team. 

Biola closed to within 8-7 at the end of the third, but Kulick, McKenna and Adsen scored three straight goals to start the fourth to help CMS pull away at 11-7. Biola scored two straight goals to close to within 11-9, but McKenna finished off her hat trick with a penalty shot to seal it. 

CMS will be back in action tomorrow on the second day of the tournament with games against Fresno Pacific and Azusa Pacific.
