Dara Schoolcraft Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Women's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Dara Schoolcraft earned the SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Feb. 5, the league office announced today.

Schoolcraft anchored a defense that held Fresno Pacific to eight goals in an 11-8 win on Saturday, picking up four steals on the day. The Sunbirds had averaged 15.5 goals in their two previous games against SCIAC teams (Redlands, Occidental), but the Athenas were able to hold them to only one goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half to open up a 10-5 lead.

Schoolcraft drew the primary assignment of defending Sunbird leading scorer Tatum Benson (10 goals) and helped hold her to only one tally on the day. It is the second SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year honor of Schoolcraft's career, after she also picked one up last season after the opening collegiate weekend.

CMS will be back in action on Feb. 17-18 when it travels to Fresno, where it will face Biola, Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific a second time.
