Athenas Sweep Past Bulldogs In Volleyball

The CMS volleyball team (8-7, 3-2 SCIAC) dominated in a straight-set win this past Friday night against the Redlands Bulldogs (1-11, 1-4 SCIAC) to move to third in the SCIAC standings.

The Athenas won the first set 25-17 after struggling a bit at the start. However, their flat start was quickly replaced by an energetic focus that the team used to emphatically win the set. The Athenas started the second set how they ended the first, winning 10 of the first 13 points. However, CMS faltered while closing out the set and allowed the Bulldogs to build their momentum for a comeback. The Athenas eventually regained their composure and won the set 25-22. The Athenas were clinical in the third set, making short work of the Bulldogs attempts en route to a 25-14 win.

Bennett Jones (pictured) led the team with 11 kills and shared the team lead with Monique Nguyen with three blocks.  Taylor Jones had 31 assists on the night and co-led the team with three aces.  A trio of Athenas, including Nguyen, Emily Hudson and Courtney Searls, had six kills each.  Regina Mullen led with 16 digs and shared the lead in aces with three.

CMS travel to Occidental on October 1 for a 6:00 match.  They return home for the final game of the first round of SCIAC play against Caltech on Tuesday, October 4.  Match time is 7:30.
