CMS Women's Track and Field Places Sixth in USTFCCCA's First Rating Index

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team is sixth in the nation in the first NCAA DIII Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index for the 2024 season from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, presented by AthleticNET.

The rating index includes only marks from this season, and the Athenas place in the top 10 with 208.3 points among teams that have gotten their outdoor seasons started already, just 30 behind fifth-place Williams.

Laura Zimmer leads the way in the early part of the 2024 season by placing first in the country in the 1500 meters and second in the 800 meters. Elle Marsyla is third in the 5000 and 13th in the 1500, while Sara Wexler places ninth and 18th, respectively. Riley Capuano also places seventh in the 1500 meters and tenth in the 800 meters, while Josephine Jett is just outside the top 10 in the 100-meter hurdles at 11th.

In the field events, Madeline Seifert is eighth in the pole vault, with Antonia Hekster placing 11th in the hammer throw and Katelyn Sewell in 13th in the discus.

CMS is also missing future points from Natalie Bitetti, who spent most of the last month competing indoors, where she finished second in the nation in the 3000 meters two weeks ago. She was also second in the nation in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in the fall.

CMS will be back in action when it hosts the second SCIAC Multi-Dual at the Burns Track Complex on Saturday, with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events at 11 a.m.
