Athenas Win Five Events at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Track and Field Meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team competed in its first outdoor event of the 2024 season and took first place in five different events at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet and the Strehle Track Complex.

Individual first-place finishers included Antonia Hekster (hammer), Josephine Jett (100 meters), Laura Zimmer (800 meters), and Madeline Seifert (pole vault), while the 4x400 relay of Jada Higgins, Reyna Kleemeier, Sally Gaskell and Olivia Schleifer also took first.

CMS also had several others in close contention, including Jett, who was second in the 100-meter hurdles, and Angie Gushue (mile), Simone Rogers (high jump), and Eleanor Champlin-Wilson (shot put), who each earned runner-up finishes. Shriya Velichala was third in the 400 meters and fourth in the 200 meters.

Jett's runner up finish in the 100 hurdles came in 14.99, putting her in seventh place in CMS history. She also finished in 12.56 in the 100 meters, which is not far off the CMS top 10 (12.44 is tenth place) in her first collegiate 100.

Zimmer had a new PR in the 800 meters (2:12.81), knocking .19 off her old best time to remain in fifth place in CMS history. Riley Capuano finished third and moved into 10th at CMS with a 2:14.97.

Seifert clamed first place in the pole vault at 11'7.75" and Hekster had a 156'4" to win the hammer throw.

CMS will be back in action next week when it hosts the Rossi Relays on Saturday.
