Brooke Simon Breaks Own SCIAC Pole Vault Record at Redlands Last Chance Meet

REDLANDS, Calif. - Brooke Simon added to her own CMS and SCIAC record in the pole vault at the Redlands Last Chance Meet in the final tune-up before the NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday evening.

Simon cleared 4.03 meters (13' 2.5") to add an inch to her previous best of exactly 4.0 meters at the SCIAC Championships, when she repeated as the league champion.

Simon now ranks third in the nation in the pole vault heading into the NCAA Championships next week, when she will try to earn All-America honors for the fourth time in the last two seasons (twice indoor, once outdoor).

In other events, Caroline DelVecchio won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.45, which was just .04 off her season best from earlier in the season, and she remains ranked in the top 10 in the nation (No. 8) heading into nationals. Shriya Velichala also had a PR in the 400 hurdles by clocking a 1:03.43.

Antonia Hekster also won the javelin with a throw of 109'1" and finished second in the hammer at 156'11".

The NCAA Division III Championships will get underway on Thursday, and will run through Saturday in Rochester, New York.
