Brooke Simon Repeats as All-American at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Brooke Simon cleared 3.80 meters on her third and final attempt in the pole vault to become the first two-time NCAA Indoor All-American in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps history at the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Simon is familiar with coming through in the clutch to earn her way onto the podium. A year ago, Simon earned All-America honors at the indoor championships by clearing on her third and final attempt at both 3.75 and 3.80 meters. This year, she did the same thing again at 3.80, making it over on her last try to advance into the final 10 competitors (out of the 20 who started).

Simon ended up in a tie for eighth place with Ace Cole of Rhodes, and both cleared on their third attempt at 3.80, which is the first tiebreaker. They both also had six misses throughout the course of the competition, leaving the tie unbroken and leaving them both with the eighth spot on the All-America podium.

Simon finished sixth a year ago at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, both with 3.80 clearances. She is now 3-for-3 at earning All-America honors, after losing her first two years of postseason competition due to the pandemic.

Simon will get back to outdoor competition on Friday at the Redlands Invitational, before competing at the Athenas' second SCIAC Multi-Dual on April 1 at Occidental.
