CMS Women's Track and Field Edges Redlands by 7 to Sweep First Multi-Dual

PASADENA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team edged Redlands by seven points and picked up lopsided wins over Cal Lutheran and Caltech as it opened SCIAC competition with three wins at the first multi-dual.

CMS defeated Redlands 85-78, continuing a recent theme which has seen the Athenas take close wins over the Bulldogs at the last two SCIAC Championships (although three years apart, with CMS winning in 2019 and 2022). The Athenas also defeated Caltech 127-29 and Cal Lutheran 122-30.

Caroline DelVecchio took first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.89 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.27, a margin of nearly two seconds. She also anchored the 4x400 relay to a first-place finish in 4:03.60, along with Shriya Velichala, Jada Higgins and Alyssa Ruiz, and was third in the long jump.

In the distance events, Anika Kimme was first in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:47.74, just edging Chloe Bullock of Redlands by 1.09 seconds. Hannah Weaver was the first finisher in the steeplechase, crossing the line in 12:29.35, and Meredith Bloss won the 5000 in 18:21.90, followed by teammates Sara Wexler and Lily Ryan in second and third in a 1-2-3 CMS finish.

CMS also had a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault, where Brooke Simon came in first (11'7.75"), followed by Madeline Seifert (11'1.75") and Bella Milano (10'8"). The Athenas had two of the three high jumpers who tied for first, with Cami Okamura and Simone Rogers both clearing four feet, 11 inches.

Antonia Hekster came in first in the hammer throw for the Athenas with a top throw of 46.20 meters (151'7"). Emily Burger was first in the javelin (123'7") with Hekster second.

CMS will be back in action next weekend at the Occidental Distance and Sprint Carnival.
