DelVecchio, Velichala Finish 2-3 in 400 to Open Outdoor Season for CMS Women's Track and Field

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Caroline DelVecchio and Shriya Velichala were the top two collegiate finishers in the 400 meters to highlight the performance of the CMS women's track and field team at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers on Saturday at Strehle Track.

DelVecchio came in under a minute with a 59.05, behind only unattached runner Faith Burt, while Velichala crossed in 1:00.72. Jada Higgins had a top-10 finish in the 800 meters (eighth), while Malia McColl was tenth in the 100. Olivia Schliefer was 11th in the 400 hurdles. 

In the distance events, Meredith Bloss ran both the mile and the 3000 and earned top-10s in both, finishing in fifth in the 3000, just behind teammate Elle Marsyla in fourth. Bloss was seventh in the mile, with Angie Gushue in ninth and Megan Maley just outside the top 10 in 11th. 

In the field events, Emily Burger was second in the javelin and sixth in the shot put, while Belen Yudess was tenth in the discus and Jordan Mueller 11th. Georgia Arnold was also top 10 in the javelin in seventh. Madeline Seifert tied for third in the pole vault and Simone Rogers placed third in the high jump, with Cami Okamura in fifth.

CMS will be back in action next week when it hosts the Rossi Relays at 10 a.m.
