Brooke Simon Wins Pole Vault at Whitworth Invitational for CMS Women's Track and Field

SPOKANE, Wash. - Brooke Simon earned first place at the Whitworth Invitational Indoor Track and Field meet with a vault of 12'6.25" (3.82 meters), the third-highest vault in NCAA Division III indoor season this year, to highlight the performance of the CMS women's track and field team this weekend.

Simon finished 6.25 inches ahead of her closest competitor, and moved behind only Gracie Holland of Wisconsin-Whitewater (12'10") and Peyton Proffitt of Otterbein (12'8") in all of NCAA Division III during indoor competition this winter. Simon earned All-America honors last year in both indoor and outdoor season a year ago. Madeline Seifert also competed in the pole vault at Whitwirth and finished tied for fifth.

Caroline DelVecchio also competed in the pentathlon at the Whitworth Invitational, and was second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.21), third in the 800 meters (2:27.14), seventh in the high jump (4'10.5"), 12th in the long jump (15'5.5"), and 14th in the shot put (24'11.75").

DelVecchio was also ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in the regular competition in 9.19, just missing qualifying for finals, and anchored a 4x400 relay team that finished fourth, along with Shriya Velichala, Alyssa Ruiz and Jada Higgins

In addition to the contingent at the Whitworth Invitational, CMS also sent some distance runners to Boston to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University. Meredith Bloss ran a 17:45.95 in the 5000 to move into the 50th spot in Division III this year, while Laura Zimmer ran a 5:00.82 in the mile to move into 41st.

CMS will be back in action this weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet on Saturday.
