CMS Women's Tennis Maintains Top Spot in Latest ITA Team Rankins

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The two-time defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team maintained its No. 1 spot in the latest NCAA Division III rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Athenas, who stand at 12-0 on the year and have won 35 matches in a row dating back to a loss at the ITA Indoor Championships last year, have 88.5 points in the latest ratings, a six-point lead over Pomona-Pitzer, which moved up one spot to No. 2.

Chicago, which was the last team to defeat CMS at the ITA Indoors, but which has been runner-up to the Athenas in the last two national championship matches, as well as at this year's ITA Indoors, slipped one spot to No. 3. Wesleyan stands at No. 4 and Emory No. 5, with Redlands also moving into the top 10 in the SCIAC at No. 8.

CMS has wins this year over Emory, No. 7 Johns Hopkins, No. 10 WashU, No. 13 Sewanee, No. 14 Middlebury, and No. 17 Sewanee, in addition to a win over Chicago at the ITA Indoors, avenging its last defeat.

CMS will be back in action on Friday, when it hosts MIT, which is currently ranked No. 16. The regular season meeting with No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer will be on April 27.
