Top-Ranked CMS Women's Tennis Earns Dominant Win Over No. 4 Middlebury

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 1-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team swept doubles and then went on to capture an 8-1 win No. 4 Middlebury on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

With the win, CMS moves to 12-0 on the season and extends its winning streak to 35 matches dating back to last year. Middlebury slips to 4-3 with the loss.

CMS earned its first point of the match at No. 2 doubles, when Lindsay Eisenman and Ella Brissett earned an 8-3 win. Moments later, Audrey Yoon and Sena Selby finished off an 8-2 win at No. 3, finishing off the match after jumping out to a 7-0 lead.

The final doubles point saw Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili locked in a 5-5 tie, before closing out with the final three games to earn the 8-5 win at No. 1 to give CMS a 3-0 lead going into singles.

Three of the six singles matches went to three sets, but there was little drama in the team result after CMS went in with a three-point lead. Jade Haller rolled to a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 to stretch the lead to 4-0, and Yoon secured the clinch with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Eisenman also earned a straight-set win at No. 1, closing strong in the second set after falling behind for a 6-1, 6-4 win.

Selby regrouped in a third-set tiebreaker for a 6-3, 0-6, 10-6 win to make it 7-0 for the Athenas, and after the Panthers won a three-setter at No. 6, Chulani finished off the match with a 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 win at No. 2.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow for a pair of matches against Amherst and Cal Lutheran, weather permitting.
