Four Athenas Selected for NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles/Doubles Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alisha Chulani, Katherine Wurster and Audrey Yoon earned invitations to the NCAA Division III Singles Championships, while Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili were selected to compete in the doubles champions, the NCAA announced this week.

Chulani and Batoshvili will compete for the second straight season, after reaching the quarterfinal round a year ago. All three Athenas will competing in the singles championship for the first time, following a season in which Crystal Juan and Sydney Lee earned invitations as seniors. 

Chulani has a 16-4 record in singles, which includes an 11-3 mark in doubles, 7-3 while playing at No. 1 singles. In doubles, she and Batoshvili stand at 14-6 on the year, all while playing at No. 1 since Batoshvili returned from studying abroad in the fall. 

Wurster has already secured All-America honors for the Athenas in the fall, when she captured the championship of the ITA West Region singles championship, defeating Pomona-Pitzer's Angie Zhou in three sets in the finals. Her current singles record stands at 18-7 on the year heading into NCAA competition. 

Yoon has been almost unbeatable for the Athenas this year, standing at 19-1 in singles competition, including 15-0 in duals, 2-0 at No. 1, 8-0 at No. 2, and 5-0 at No. 3. Her only defeat came to Zhou in the quarterfinals of the ITA West Regionals in September, and she has been taken to three sets only twice in dual matches, once against Division I Santa Clara, and once against Redlands, when she came back for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 win. 

The singles and doubles championships will get underway in Orlando on Thursday, May 18, after the conclusion of the team championships. CMS will be action at the NCAA Regionals at UT Dallas this weekend, hoping to qualify for nationals for the 11th straight season.
