Second-Ranked CMS Women's Tennis Defeats No. 16 Caltech 8-1

PASADENA, Calif. – The second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team continued its outdoor dominance this season, taking an 8-1 win over No. 16 Caltech on Tuesday afternoon in a SCIAC matchup.

With the win, CMS moves to 17-1 on the year and 5-0 in SCIAC, winning its 13th match in a row since falling to Chicago at the ITA Indoor Nationals, while not having a match closer than 7-2 during the streak. Caltech falls to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in league play with the loss.

Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles to get the first point on the board, and Sena Selby and Katherine Wurster followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2. Ella Brissett and Lindsay Eisenman were in a tight one early at No. 3, before breaking it open in the second half for an 8-3 win to finish off the doubles sweep.

CMS wasted no time picking up the clinch, as Chulani (No. 2) and Selby (No. 5) each won 6-0, 6-1 decisions to earn the fourth and fifth points. Brissett was the third to finish as she earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Audrey Yoon followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 to make the score 7-0.

After Caltech picked up its lone point at No. 1 singles, where Emily Zhang won 7-5, 6-2. Batoshvili earned the final point for the Athenas, holding on for a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 6 by taking the tiebreaker 7-4. 

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it hosts UC Santa Cruz on Friday in a non-league match and travels to Chapman on Saturday for a SCIAC contest.
