CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Whittier for 11th Straight Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team dropped only five total games across six singles matches as it earned a 9-0 win over Whittier on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The win was the 11th in a row for CMS, which improves to 15-1 overall on the year and 3-0 in the SCIAC, while Whittier slips to 2-15 overall and 0-5 in the league with the loss.

Katherine Wurster and Ella Brissett both were perfect on the day, winning 8-0 in doubles and then taking 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Wurster teamed with Sena Selby for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and then took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Brissett won at No. 1 doubles with Lindsay Eisenman and then took her win at No. 3 singles.

The Athenas were pushed at No. 3 doubles, where they rallied back from a 6-3 deficit to force a tiebreaker. Trailing 7-6 and facing match point at deuce, Arushi Malik came up with a winner down the line to send it to the breaker, where she and Olivia Almy were able to prevail 7-5.

After Wurster made it 4-0 and Brissett earned the clinch, Nikolina Batoshvili won the third straight singles decision for CMS at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Eisenman followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5, and Malik just moments later secured a 6-0, 6-1 win to make it 8-0. Alisha Chulani then finished off the 9-0 win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it tries to move to 4-0 in SCIAC with a home match against Cal Lutheran.
