CMS Women's Tennis Advances to ITA Indoor Finals with 7-2 win over MIT

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team moved on to the finals of the ITA Indoor Championships with a 7-2 semifinal win over MIT on Saturday at Sewanee.

CMS moved to 4-0 on the year in duals, after defeating Case Western 6-3 in Friday's quarterfinals. The win sets a rematch with Chicago, which CMS defeated in the NCAA Division III Championship match a year ago 5-1. Chicago moved on with an 8-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer in its semifinal match. 

The Athenas took five of six singles matches after winning two of three in doubles. Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and then each won their singles matches, with Chulani coming back for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-1 win at No. 1, dominating the third-set tiebreaker, while Batoshvili earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6. 

Sena Selby also won in singles and doubles for the second straight match, combining with Katherine Wurster for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, and then winning a three-setter at No. 5 singles, taking it 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. 

Audrey Yoon earned a singles win at No. 2 (7-5, 6-4), and Ella Brissett won a quick match at No. 4 (6-4, 6-2). 

CMS and Chicago will play tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. Pacific time for the ITA Indoor Championship.
