Crystal Juan Earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week Distinction for CMS Women's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Crystal Juan of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, Feb. 20, the league office announced today.

Juan captured the honor after compiling a 3-0 record as CMS held its first duals of the 2022 spring season on Friday, defeating Division II Point Loma and Hope International at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. She picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Point Loma, and then won in both singles and doubles against HIU in almost perfect fashion, earning a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles with Audrey Yoon, and a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Juan continued her standout play from the fall, when she qualified for the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia for the second straight season, reaching the nationals in doubles with Gabby Lee. Two years ago, she went from unseeded in doubles to the ITA Cup national semifinals, earning All-America honors.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it hosts two more matches at home, taking on Trinity University at 10 a.m. and Mary Washington at 2 p.m. at Biszantz.
