Juan/Lee Win Two Consolation Matches at ITA Cup

ROME, Ga. - After falling in the Round of 16 yesterday, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis doubles team of Gabby Lee and Crystal Juan bounced back in impressive fashion to pick up two straight-set wins in the consolation bracket on Friday at the Rome Tennis Center.

Lee and Juan earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daria Beshentseva and Victoria Vazquez from Kenyon in their first match on Friday, and then added an impressive 6-3, 6-4 win over Jessica Fatemi and Emma Cartledge from Emory, one of the traditional national rivals for the Athenas (CMS defeated the Eagles for the 2018 national title).

The two wins prolong the stay for the CMS duo for one more day, as they will try to win the championship of the consolation draw against Alli Ziehm and Emma Kesterson of Southwestern, who picked up 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 wins on Friday over teams from Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Juan and Lee earned their way to the ITA Cup by reaching the ITA West Regional finals on Oct. 3. It marked Juan's second trip to Rome, as she also qualified for the ITA Cup in doubles in 2019 (with Anna Kern), reaching the semifinals to earn All-America honors.
