Athenas to host regional rounds of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee released the 49-team field for the 2016 Championships and the SCIAC co-champion and No. 4 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team is hosting first through third round, regional matches on May 13-15 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

CMS (19-4) received an AQ to the NCAA Championships by defeating Pomona-Pitzer 7-2 on May 8 in the conference finals. It is the sixth-straight conference title for the Athenas. Last season, the Athenas finished fourth at the NCAA Championships.

CMS earned a first round bye for NCAA postseason competition. Pomona-Pitzer (19-3) received the other first round bye in the six-team regional to be played at CMS. First round matches are Trinity (Texas: 14-9) against Texas-Tyler (21-3) and Lewis & Clark (Ore: 18-2) against UC Santa Cruz (3-9) on Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. In the second round on Saturday, May 14, CMS plays the TU-UTT winner at 10 a.m. Pomona-Pitzer plays the LC-UCSC winner in the second round at 2 p.m. The third round is scheduled for Sunday, May 15.
