Top-seeded CMS doubles team advances to D-III quarterfinals

MASON, Ohio – The top-seeded doubles team of junior Caroline Ward (CMC) and sophomore Katie Kuosman (CMC) from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won their Round of 16 match on the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships on May 21 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The Athenas have moved on and now face Eudice Chong and Helen Klass-Warch from Wesleyan in the quarterfinals on May 22 at 3 p.m. EDT.

To reach the quarters, the Athenas defeated Emory's Anna Fuhr and Michelle Satterfield 6-0, 7-5 in the Round of 16 on May 21 and are now one of eight teams remaining.

In singles, Ward, the sixth-seeded player in the field of 32, was upset 6-2, 6-2 in the first round by Satterfield. Kuosman won her first round match 6-1, 7-5 over Shelby Harris of Mary Washington, but then lost later in the afternoon 6-4, 6-2 to Amherst's Sue Ghosh.
