CMS goes out swinging in quarterfinal loss to Johns Hopkins

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, CMS lost a hard fought match to Johns Hopkins University 5-4.  CMS finishes their season with an overall record of 21-8 after making it to at least the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth-straight season. 

JHU jumped out to an early lead over CMS at the start of doubles play.  JHU received their first point as Hailey Hogan and Sydney Lehman defeated Katie Kuosman and Caroline Ward in No. 1 doubles 8-6.  JHU received their second straight point as Ashnaa Rao and Amanda Austi defeated Crystal Lim and Yvonne Likamonova of CMS in No. 3 doubles 8-4.  JHU scored their third point of the match as Elaine Baik and Mikey Barthelmass defeated Chloe Dobbert and Sarah Kukino in No. 2 doubles 8-5.

CMS started to fight back in singles play as Sarah Kukino defeated Elaine Baik of JHU 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles.  JHU quickly answered as Sydney Lehman defeated Katie Kuosman of CMS 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.  CMS mounted an impressive comeback as they took the next three matches which started out with Caroline Ward defeating Amanda Austi of JHU in No. 1 singles 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.  CMS kept the comeback rolling as Crystal Lim defeated Hailey Hogan of JHU 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3) in No. 4 singles. CMS scored their third straight point Chloe Dobbert defeated Ashnaa Rao of JHU in No. 3 doubles 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.  However, CMS fell just short of finishing their impressive comeback as Yvonne Likamonova fell to Jody Law of JHU 7-5,6-7, 6-4 in No. 6 doubles.
