Doubles Play Carries CMS To 7-2 Win Over UT Dallas

CLAREMONT, Calif. – A busy one-week stretch for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team concluded on Thursday as CMS defeated the University of Texas at Dallas 7-2 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Over the last six days, CMS has played in five matches, all wins. CMS is now 9-0 on the season.

With a different singles lineup in action, the usual doubles lineup carried CMS to a 3-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Kristin Lim and junior Abby Hayley pulled out an 8-6 win over Rachel Houston and Casey Johnson. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Crystal Lim and freshman Caroline Ward and the No. 3 doubles team of freshman Yvonne Likomanova and sophomore Sarah Kukino each won 8-4 over UT Dallas.

Singles play is where CMS ran into a bit of trouble as UT Dallas won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches over Ward and Kukino, respectively. Playing No. 1 singles, Hayley defeated Auvi Tran 6-2, 6-1 while Likomanova won by the same score over Mindy Tiu in the fourth position. In the fifth and sixth positions, juniors Erin Coughlan and Victoria Nichols earned wins in what was their first singles play action since the match against Vanguard University on February 23.
