Athenas Sweep Singles and Doubles Titles at the USTA/ITA West Regional Championships

Playing within the familiar confines of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, CMS Women's Tennis battled temperatures over 100 degrees on court to dominate the final day of competition at the USTA/ITA West Regional Championships. For the third year in a row, Kristin Lim ( SR - Honolulu, HI) took home the singles title and then teamed with newcomer Caroline Ward (FR - Edina, MN) to claim victory in the doubles competition.

After the conclusion of the semifinals, it was assured that an Athena would represent the West Region at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships in Mobile, Alabama, October 11-14. Kristin Lim defeated Samantha Coyiuto of Pomona-Pitzer, taking the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. While in the other semifinal, Crystal Lim (JR - Orange, CA) crushed Maegan Zamilpa of Whittier College, 6-1, 6-2. In the final, Kristin Lim defeated Crystal Lim 6-2, 6-2.

In the women's doubles final, Lim and Ward upset the number one seeds Alexandra Scotten and Laura Wade from UC Santa Cruz, 6-2, 6-1.  This was Lim's third Regional doubles title.  She won in 2010 and 2011 with partner Crystal Lim.

With a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jeanette Losaria from the University of La Verne, Ward also won the 2nd round Singles Consolation draw. Additionally, Freshman Yvonne Likomanova's (FR - Studio City, CA) put in a notable performance by winning her last five matches to take the 1st Round Singles Consolation title.  Likomanova beat Julia Galbraith from the University of Redlands 6-2, 7-5 in the final.

Lim and Ward both earn ITA All-American honors and will travel to Alabama with CMS Stags Neel Kotrappa, Joe Dorn and Warren Wood who won the USTA/ITA West Regional Men's Singles and Doubles Championships respectively.  The National Small College Championships held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams in the country.
