Athenas defeat Trinity (CT) 7-2

The CMS Athenas continued their recent winning streak with a 7-2 victory of Trinity College from Connecticut on Tuesday evening. After losing two of the three doubles matches, the Athenas came back and won all six singles matches to clinch their victory.

In doubles, number one team of Kristin Lim and Crystal Lim quickly prevailed over Trinity, winning convincingly at 8-3. Next to finish was number two doubles, where Chloe Dobbert and Jessie Huang rebounded after a slow start but still lost 8-5. In a nail-biting match, number three doubles team of Brittan Sutphin and Victoria Santoro entered a tie-break with Trinity at eight all. They lost 8-6 in the tie-break, giving Trinity a 2-1 lead going into the singles.

In singles, numbers one, two and four all finished quickly with solid winds over Trinity. #1 Kristin Lim won 6-1,6-0 and #2 Crystal Lim and #4 Jessie Huang both won 6-3,6-0. With these three wins, the Athenas pulled into a 4-2 lead. After a tough first set, #3 Chloe Dobbert pulled out a 7-5, 6-2 victory, clinching the match for the Athenas. Next to finish was #6 Victoria Santoro, who pulled out a third set for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory. And to secure the singles sweep for the Athenas, #5 Hannah Kornfeld won 2-6, 7-6, 10-7. 
The Athenas will next face Pacific University from Portland, Oregon on Thursday evening.
