Athena Freestyle Relay Caps Off NCAA Championship with All-America Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Annika Sharma, Mackenzie Mayfield, Madeleine Kan and Annette Chang finished in 13th place to earn second-team All-America honors on the final day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

The CMS quartet finished with a time of 3:28.01 in the finals, trimming a half-second off their time at SCIACs to move up into ninth place in CMS history.

Katy Shaw was also in action in the 1650 on Saturday and finished in 19th place with a 17:16.89, just missing her second All-America honor after taking second-team distinction in the 500-yard freestyle on Wednesday.

CMS finished the competition in 25th place with 26 points over the four-day event. The Athenas earned All-America honors in four different relays, with Sharma, Mayfield, and Kan swimming in all four. Sun Young Byun was part of the two All-America medley relays, and Chang was part of the two freestyle relays.

Individually, Allyson Yao captured second-team All-America honors in the 400 IM in her final trip to nationals as a senior, joining Shaw on the individual All-America list for the Athenas.
