Athena Swim and Dive Tunes up For SCIACs in Regular Season Finale

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Allison Nguyen moved up to sixth place in CMS history in the 400 IM with a 4:32.00 to highlight the performance of the CMS women's swimming and diving team at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

The Pomona-Pitzer Invitational is an annual non-team scoring event that serves as the final tune-up before the SCIAC Championships, which will be held from Feb. 22-25 at East Los Angeles College (ELAC).

Nguyen led a 1-2-3 finish for the Athenas in the 400 IM, with Mackenzie Mayfield second and Revere Schmidt third. Schmidt already holds the NO. 10 spot in the event from earlier this year (4:33.22).

Kelly Prawira swept both breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breastroke in 1:06.78 and taking the 200-yard in 2:25.77, winning by just .18 over Schmidt.

CMS took both diving boards, with Meilan Uyeno winning the one-meter by over 20 points with 264.25, and Alexis Romero taking the three-meter by 24 points, with Uyeno second. Katy Shaw took the 1650 in 17:48.06 as she tries to repeat as league champion in that event in two weeks.

The Athenas will also be looking to defend their league championship as a team, after winning a tight 10-point decision over Pomona-Pitzer last year. The opening day is Thursday, Feb. 22 at ELAC, with the final day taking place on Sunday, Feb. 25.
