Swim & Dive poised for SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The annual Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships for swimming and diving is set to take place Feb. 15-18 in Commerce, Calif. at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center. Both the men's and women's teams for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps enter the meet undefeated in SCIAC dual meets during the season and in search for the 2017 conference title.

With Charlie Griffiths at the helm, the Athenas won 13 consecutive SCIAC titles from the 2002 to 2015. In 2016, Pomona-Pitzer edged out the women's team in the regular season dual meet and then the SCIAC Championships 1106-964. Two weeks ago, the Athenas came away with the 182-117 win over the Sagehens in the final dual meet of the year and hope to avenge last season's loss at the SCIAC Championships this week.

The Stags have currently won nine consecutive SCIAC Championships, having earned the 2016 title 1086-1044 over Pomona-Pitzer. In the dual meet with the Sagehens just 10 days ago, CMS won 167-129 in spectacular fashion. The Stags will look to defend their 2016 title and stay on top of the conference.

The schedule for Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 18 includes morning preliminary competitions that seed for evening finals. Find the full schedule on the SCIAC website. Spectator information:

• Admission will be charge for each session (prelims, finals): $10 general, $5 seniors & veterans, free for students and children under 12.
• Only limited seating is available.
• Free parking is in Jillson St. or Commerce Way lots.
• No concessions will be sold.
