Swimmers post fast times at invites

Select CMS swimmers attended Invitational meets over the past two weekends, posting several fast times.

All-Americans Alex Poltash and Matt Williams earned invites to the AT&T Winter National Championships in Federal Way, WA December 3-5. The long-course meet featured some of the fastest swimmers in the United States. Poltash placed 94th in the 50 meter free and 88th in the 100 free. Williams was 70th in the 100 meter butterfly. CMS's top finish on the weekend was Williams's 58th place in the 100 backstroke, an event won by world-record holder, Matt Grevers.

Other CMS swimmers went to the Winter Invite at the South Gate Swim Stadium December 11-12. Sophomore Lauren Rosenberger placed third in the 1650 yard freestyle, while senior Cory Johnson finished second in the 400 yard individual medley on Friday night.

Additional team members raced during the morning preliminaries on Saturday. Freshman Aaron Lutzker notched the swim of the day in a time-trial session. Lutzker's mark of 2:05.24 in the 200 yard breaststroke slipped under the NCAA B-cut standard and ranks him fifth in CMS history in the event. Season-best times were also posted by Lutzker in the 100 fly, Jackson Crewe (100 FL, 200 IM, 100 BR time-trial), Zachary Goland (100 FL), Joey Hinton (50 FS), Riley Hoffman (200 FS, 200 IM, 100 BK), Alex Li (100 FL, 100 BR) and Ice Limchantra (200 FS, 100 BK).

The CMS swimming and diving teams will take a break during exam week and the holidays. The squads will resume competition on Friday, January 8, 2016 at NCAA D-II California Baptist University in Riverside. Swimming and diving will each begin at 2:00 p.m.
