Athenas Win Five Events On Day One Of SCIAC Championships

CMS won all five swimming events contested on the first day of the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Sunday.  After the first of three days of competition, CMS has 279 points with Pomona-Pitzer in second with 196.

Carmen Lundell got the Athenas off to a strong start with a second place finish in 3 meter diving as she finished just 7.65 points behind first.  The evening swimming competition began with a wire-to-wire win in 1:36.70 for the 200 free relay team of Michele Kee, Kristie Howard, Dana Shaker and Helen Liu.  CMS went 1-2 in the 500 free as Louisa Dunwiddie won in 5:04.61 and was closely followed by LillyBelle Deer in 5:05.21.  Kee won her third straight 200 individual medley title with an NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 2:07.11.  Liu won the 50 free with a NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 23.92.  The Athenas capped off the evening with a NCAA 'B' qualifying performance of 3:52.44 in the 400 medley relay.  The team of Liu, Maddy Gebhard, Erin MacLean and Kee gave CMS their seventh straight win the event.

The second day of competition is Monday with finals in the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 1 meter diving and the 200 medley and 800 free relays.
